PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior forward Kris Joseph has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for leading the Orange to the NIT Season Tip Off Championship at Madison Square Garden last week.
Joseph averaged 19.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in wins against Virginia Tech and Stanford, while shooting 48.4 percent from the floor (15-of-31). Joseph was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
Against the Hokies, the Montreal, Quebec native had a double-double with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Joseph shot 7-of-15 and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the line in 39 minutes of action.
Joseph then led the comeback against Stanford, scoring 12 of his game-high 18 points in the second half, while six of those came during SU's 18-5 run to close the game.
This is Joseph's first career Player of the Week honor.
The Orange returns to the Carrier Dome on Tuesday night against Eastern Michigan. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available online, at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B) or by calling 1-888-DOMETIX. Time Warner Cable Sports will carry a live broadcast of the game.
