SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Orange men's and women's rowing teams will make their only home fall appearance when they host the annual Syracuse Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the James Ten Eyck Boathouse located at Onondaga Lake Outlet in Longbranch Park. Crews from Cornell, Hobart, Buffalo, Rochester and Colgate will compete against the Orange in six different events along the three-mile course.
Racing begins at 10 a.m. when the men's varsity four “A” boats take the water, including four Syracuse crews. The women's varsity four “A” race starts five minutes later and features three Syracuse boats.
The Orange has a pair of crews in the men's freshman eight competition at 10:15 a.m., and the women will enter one boat in the novice eight event at 10:20 a.m.
After the eights, the regatta wraps up with another round of fours. Syracuse has one crew in the men's varsity four “B” race at 11 a.m. and three boats in the last race of the day – the women's varsity four “B” – at 11:05 a.m.
Following the racing, Syracuse University coaching legend Bill Sanford '63 will be inducted in the Syracuse Rowing Hall of Fame in the brief ceremony at the boathouse. Sanford was the coach of the men's rowing team for 34 years from 1968-2002 and led several crews to Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) championships, including the 1978 Orange varsity eight.
