Former Orange Making Mark In The NFL

Through 14 weeks of the National Football League regular season, 17 former Syracuse student-athletes continue to make a presence and play prominent roles in the success of their 11 NFL franchises. Among them are five rookies from the 2010 SU team, including Fourth Round selection Delone Carter with the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts lead the way with four former Orange on its active roster, including two rookies in Carter and Mike Holmes. Carter is second on the team with 353 yards rushing this season and two touchdowns. He is averaging 3.8 yards per carry, and also has four catches for 13 yards. Carter ran for 3,104 yards while with the Orange, which is third on the SU career rushing list.
Holmes, who started the year as an undrafted free agent with Chicago, was signed to the Indianapolis practice squad on Oct. 11 before being promoted to the active roster on Dec. 6. Quinn Ojinnaka is also a new addition to the Colts, signing with the team on Oct. 5.
Holding down the defensive line for the Colts in 2011 is six-time Pro Bowler Dwight Freeney. Freeney is franchise's all-time sack leader (94.0), including 7.5 this season. He is also the only Colts player with seven double-digit sack season, including four straight from 2002-05.
On the West Coast, Steve Gregory had a big day against Buffalo last weekend with a team-high seven tackles and an interception that he returned 26-yards for a Charger touchdown in a 16-13 win against the Bills. Gregory, a 2006 graduate of SU, is third on Syracuse's career passes defended list (40) and third on the program's pass breakups list (34).
Jameel McClain is second on the Baltimore Ravens in tackles this season with 59, behind only Ray Lewis. McClain had a team-high eight tackles against Indianapolis last weekend, and also has an interception on the season. Arthur Jones, a three-year letterwinner at SU, has 13 tackles for the Ravens this season in his second season with the franchise.
Rookie linebacker Doug Hogue has four tackles with the Detroit Lions this season, including one against Minnesota last weekend. Hogue has appeared in 10 of the Lions' 13 games this season, and was drafted in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by the franchise earlier this year.
