Kevyn Scott Named to Capital One Academic All-America First Team

TOWSON, Md. – Syracuse senior captain Kevyn Scott was named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America First Team on Thursday, Dec. 8. He is the 10th player in the history of the Orange football program to receive first-team academic All-America honors and the first since center Jim McKenzie in 2009.
Scott was one of five defensive backs, along with Austin Cassidy (Nebraska), Tysyn Hartman (Kansas State), Alex Sewall (Indiana State) and Steve Wirkus (Dayton), selected to the first team.
A native of Tamarac, Fla., Scott played in all 12 games for the Orange in 2011 with nine starts. He recorded 29 tackles, including 24 solo, and two interceptions. Both of Scott's interceptions came in either the fourth quarter or overtime.
Off the field, Scott is pursuing a master's degree in information management after receiving his bachelor's degree in information management and technology. A 2008-09 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar, Scott was invited to attend the 2009 University Presidential Inaugural Conference (UPIC), including the inauguration of President Barack Obama, in Washington, D.C.
Scott is also a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team member and six-time Syracuse Athletic Director's Honor Roll selection. Earlier this season, Scott was a candidate for the 2011 National Football Foundation (NFF) National Scholar-Athlete Award.
The Capital One Academic All-America program is administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, achieve sophomore standing at their current school, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.3 and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck led the 2011 academic All-America selections. Luck was named to the first team and selected as the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year in Division I football.
