HARTFORD, Conn. – No. 17/17 Syracuse will face its third top-10 opponent in its last five games when it takes on No. 6/7 Connecticut on Wednesday, February 2 in Hartford, Conn. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Orange (18-4, 5-4) will try to snap a four-game losing streak, while the Huskies (17-3, 5-3) had its six-game winning streak snapped in a double-overtime loss to Louisville on Saturday.

COACHING LEGENDS SET RECORD
Syracuse's Jim Boeheim and Connecticut's Jim Calhoun, each a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, enter Wednesday's encounter ranked second and third, respectively, among active Division I coaches in victories. Boeheim's 847 wins and Calhouns 840 triumphs will combine to set a Division I standard for combined coaching victories in one game -- 1,687. The current mark of 1,665 was set when Texas Tech's Bob Knight (868) and Oklahoma State's Eddie Sutton (797) met on Feb. 2, 2006.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Syracuse plays the second of three consecutive games on the road on Wednesday. It is the Orange's longest stretch of road games this season. Following Wednesday's contest, Syracuse plays at at USF on February 5. Overall, six of the Orange's final 10 regular-season games will be played on the road. This season, Syracuse has a record of 5-2 in games played away from the Carrier Dome.
DOUBLE SCOOP
Junior Scoop Jardine recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 13 assists at Marquette. The 13 assists were a career high. This season, Jardine leads the team in assists with 131. He ranks second in the BIG EAST and is tied for 18th in the nation with 6.0 assists per game. In addition, Jardine ranks 11th in the conference in steals (1.6 per game) and is 10th in assists/turnover ratio (2.0).
JOSEPH CONTINUES OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
Junior Kris Joseph has reached double figures in scoring in eight of his last nine games. The only game he failed to score 10 or more points was against Cincinnati, when he played only 10 minutes before leaving the game with an injury. In those nine games, Joseph is averaging 18.1 points per game. For the season, he is averaging 15.2 points per game, which tie him for 10th in the BIG EAST. Joseph is averaging 17.3 points per game in BIG EAST contests, which rank seventh in the league.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse's comeback came up just short as it was edged by Marquette, 76-70, on Saturday, January 29 in Milwaukee, Wis. Junior Scoop Jardine recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 13 assists.
The Golden Eagles used a 7-0 run to take an early 10-3 lead at the 16:34 mark. Marquette led by as many as 11, but the Orange chipped away at the lead, and Kris Joseph”s three-pointer cut the lead to 35-29 with three minutes to play in the opening half. The Golden Eagles held Syracuse to just two points for the remainder of the half and led 42-31 at the break.
The Orange went on an 8-1 scoring run to start the second half to cut the lead to four, 43-39. Sophomore Brandon Triche hit three free throws and Joseph drained a three-pointer to bring the Orange within three at 55-52. Syracuse tied the game on three different occasions in the second half, but couldn't manage to take the lead.
A steal by Triche led to a fast break layup by Jardine and the game was tied for the first time, 56-56, at the 8:18 mark. Marquette regained a four-point lead, but a layup by freshman #C.J. Fair# tied the game once again, 64-64 with 3:10 remaining in regulation.
The Golden Eagles hit two consecutive threes to take a 72-68 lead with 58 seconds to play. A layup by Fair made it 74-70 with 26 seconds on the clock. Marquette went 4-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final minute to solidify the win.
Joseph led the Orange with 18 points, while senior Rick Jackson had 14 points. Fair came off the bench to add 10 points.
SCOUTING CONNECTICUT
Connecticut recently had its six-game win streak end in a 79-78 double-overtime setback to Louisville on Saturday. Freshman Shabazz Napier led the team with a career-high 23 points.
Junior Kemba Walker is Connecticut's leading scorer this season, averaging 24.2 points per game. Walker leads the BIG EAST and ranks third in the nation in scoring. Sophomore Alex Oriakhi is also in double figures in scoring with 10.7 points per game. Oriakhi leads the team in rebounding with 9.0 rebounds per game, which rank third in the BIG EAST. Freshman Jeremy Lamb received BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors this past week after averaging 22.5 points per game against Marquette and Louisville.
Jim Calhoun is in his 24th season as the head coach of Connecticut, his 38th season overall. He has an all-time record of 840-361 (.699). Calhoun ranks sixth all-time in NCAA Division I wins, third among active coaches.
THE SERIES
Syracuse leads the all¬-time series against Connecticut, 50-34. The Orange has won the past two meetings, including a 72-67 victory last season. Since 1979, the two teams have played each other every season except the 2001-02 campaign.
