Syracuse Rallies Against UTSA, 3-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Senior left fielder Rachel Helman went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI to lead Syracuse (7-1) to a 3-1 win against Texas San Antonio (2-7) on Saturday night at Rhoads Stadium. After day two of the Bama Bash the Orange sits in second place in the tournament standings at 3-1 behind 7/3 Alabama, who is 4-0.
Sophomores Veronica Grant and Morgan Nandin and junior Lacey Kohl each added a pair of hits in the contest while juniors Lisaira Daniels, Kelly Saco and Gaby Torzilli each chipped in one.
Sophomore Stacy Kuwik earned her second win in the circle in two days, allowing one earned run while issuing no walks and striking out one through 7.0 innings.
The Orange got things started early as Grant singled to right on the first pitch and Helman reached on a fielder's choice that saw Grant out at second. Daniels drew a walk, putting two on for the Orange and a single through the right side by Kohl plated Helman, 1-0.
Syracuse built its edge in the top of the second as Torzilli led off the frame with a single up the middle and Nandin singled to right putting two aboard. Grant hit a one-out single to the left side to load the bases and a single through the right side by Helman scored Torzilli, 2-0.
San Antonio got a run back off a solo home run to left center, but the Orange added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Helman led off the frame with a double to the right field wall, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single up the middle by Daniels, producing the final, 3-1.
Syracuse concludes Bama Bash action tomorrow when it rematches with 7/3 Alabama at 2 p.m. ET.
