
SU Places 15 on BIG EAST Academic Team

Fifteen members of the Orange football team earned 2010 BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors. The league recognized 135 football student-athletes who have completed at least two semesters with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Since the recognition began in 1992, 83 Syracuse football student-athletes have been honored on the conference's academic team 156 times.
Graduate student linebacker Derrell Smith made the team for the fourth time in his Syracuse career, while senior defensive back Kevyn Scott earned a spot on the squad for the third time in his career.
Two-time Orange honorees include offensive lineman Ian Allport, defensive end Torrey Ball, nose tackle Ollie Haney, fullback Adam Harris, punter Rob Long, quarterback Ryan Nassib, tight end Thomas Trendowski and linebacker Dan Vaughan.
First-time Syracuse honorees include center Ryan Bartholomew, fullback Carl Cutler, quarterback James Jarrett, kicker Ryan Lichtenstein, quarterback Charley Loeb.
The 2011 football squad beings spring practice on March 8 and the annual Spring game will be held on April 16.
