A sham. A mockery. A travesty. No, I'm not talking about the game vs. DePaul, I'm talking about the First Team Big East Conference voting.
Seventeen double-doubles. Highest shooting percentage in the league. Tops in blocks. And there isn't a coach in this conference that wouldn't put him the starting five of a league all-star team that actually had to play a game. And yet there he is, riding the pine as a second-teamer. If there's any silver-lining to this colossal snub, it's that
Rick Jackson, this year's BE Defensive Player of the Year, should have a very sizable chip on his shoulder come tournament time.
Now that I got that off my chest…
Some days, things just go right. And some days, they don't. Saturday was the former for the Syracuse University basketball program and the later for the DePaul Blue Demons. One of the larger crowds of the year was on hand to watch the complete dismantling, in which the walk-ons logged record minutes. And for a 50-point blowout beat-down, the crowd was into the game and stayed late into the fourth quarter.
It was an anti-climatic end to a roller-coaster regular season of up and downs.
Chug-a-chug, chug-a-chug… to start the season, this team climbed into the top five, powered by 18-straight winning games.
Ahhhhhhhhh… and then plummeted to impossibly low depths, losing six out of the next eight.
Arguably the most satisfying part of the ride has been these final five wins that have pushed the team back to the brink of the Top 10 and believing in themselves once again.
And now it's time for a whole other tilt-a-whirl of excitement in the Big East and NCAA tournaments. Buckle up and enjoy.
