The Syracuse University track and field team competed in the Auburn War Eagle Invitational and the Kent Taylor-Joe Hilton UNC Invitational on Saturday April 16. Five more members of the squad joined the long list of student-athletes who have qualified for the BIG EAST Championships, which now includes 33 names.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – All four off the runners who competed at the Kent Taylor-Joe Hilton UNC Invitational found success with BIG EAST qualifying times.
Three of the four harriers had already met conference standards, but sophomore Andrew Nelson was SU's newest qualifier in the 1,500 meter run. Nelson took 27th with a time of 3:53.85. Fellow sophomore Joseph Bubniak ran his was to a 20th-place finish with a personal-best, BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying time of 3:50.77.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, sophomore Robert Molke finished third with a BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying time of 9:13.67. Molke's time currently ranks 10th overall in the conference.
Representing SU's women's squad was junior Lauren Penney, who met conference and ECAC standards in the 1,500 meter run with a third place finish at 4:27. 49.
Auburn War Eagle Invitational
AUBURN, Ala. – Seven men and seven women represented the Orange at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational. Among those in action this weekend, 12 athletes met BIG EAST qualifying standards, including four student-athletes who met the conference championship criteria for the first time this season.
The men's 110-meter hurdles highlighted Syracuse's performance at Auburn. Freshman Donald Pollitt and junior Matthew Callanan finish sixth and seventh with times of 14.51 and 14.56, respectively, which are both personal-bests and meet BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying standards.
In the field, sophomore Frank Taylor finished eighth in the long jump with a BIG EAST qualifying leap of 6.97 meters.
The men's 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Sham Lewis, Darryl White, Victor Nwosu and Pollitt, took 13th with a time of 42.79. That time jumps the relay squad into sixth overall in the BIG EAST.
Lewis and White also competed in the 100-meter dash, taking 19th and 24th, respectively, with BIG EAST qualifying times of 10.80 and 10.90. Lewis's time also met IC4A standards. Pollitt qualified or conference championship competition, taking 28th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.98.
Senior Jay Koloseus was SU's lone distance runner that made the trip to Auburn. Koloseus took 10th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:00.76.
SU's women had three runners qualify for the BIG EAST Championships in the 100-meter dash. Seniors Flings Owusu-Agyapong (11.97) and Lareea Chisholm (12.23) and freshman Ashley Keyes (12.23) finished in 17th, 29th and 33rd, respectively. Owusu-Agyapong also met ECAC standards in the 100m. She met conference and ECAC standards in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.59 as she was the first of six SU sprinters to cross the finish line out of 81 total participants in the event.
Freshman SaDe Lewis took 18th in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.44, meeting BIG EAST standards for the second time. She also finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles Olympic development race with a time of 14.43.
In the field, junior Ieva Staponkute finished in fifth place in the triple jump with a BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying mark of 12.33 meters. Senior Kelsey Rubeor met conference standards with personal-best marks in the long jump and shot put. She took 11th in the long jump with a leap of 5.85 meters, which also met ECAC standards. Rubeor placed 15th in the shot put with a career-best heave of 13.23 meters. Freshman Amber Passalaqua finished 21st in the long time with a BIG EAST qualifying jump of 5.60 meters.
The Orange will be back in action on April 22 and 23 at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational and the Cornell Upstate Challenge.
