Syracuse University Athletics will celebrate another successful year and recognize the achievements of its student-athletes at the fifth-annual Cuse Awards. The gala awards show, which is patterned after ESPN's ESPY Awards, will be held on Tuesday, May 3 on the Syracuse University campus. Some 600 student-athletes will attend the event, along with coaches, staff and University administrators. Although it is not open to the public, the show will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Sports and streamed world-wide on Orange All Access at SUathletics.com.
Fans will have the opportunity to vote on this year's awards by logging on to SUathletics.com. Nominations will be announced on-line and votes can be cast up until Tuesday, April 26. One new category per day will appear on the Athletics Department website and on Facebook and Twitter. The event honors the extraordinary accomplishments of Syracuse's student-athletes and coaches in athletic competition, academics, and community service initiatives.
Award categories include: Male and Female Athlete, Coach, Team and Rookie of the Year; Game, Performance, and Play of the Year; Team Grade-Point-Average; the 'Cuse Cares and Ernie David Courage Award. Guest presenters include Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney and the cousin of Syracuse football icon Ernie Davis, Richard Davis. Musical entertainment will be provided by “Sophistafunk” and “The Fly”. Voice of the Orange Matt Park will host the show that features extensive video highlights.
Votes will be tabulated and used as one of the contributing factors in determining the award winners. The 'Cuse Awards committee will also consider performance, team contribution, statistics, conference and national recognition, as well as input from coaches, teammates and staff members.
In addition to the live telecast, the show will be replayed on Time Warner Cable Sports on Wednesday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 6 at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, May 8 at 12:30 p.m. It will also be available for on-demand viewing online at SUathletics.com.
