LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament will feature a rematch of the 2010 semifinal matchup between Syracuse and DePaul on Friday, May 13, at 2:30 p.m. The two teams met in the semifinals of the 2010 tournament with the Orange edging the top seeded Blue Demons, 3-2, en route to the conference title.
The game will be streamed live on BIGEAST.TV. Live stats will also be available along with live audio of the games via the conference's mobile application.
The No. 3 seeded Orange (42-11) advanced to the semifinals after defeating Pittsburgh today, 2-1. Junior Lisaira Daniels hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to earn the come-from-behind win. Second-seeded DePaul (39-12) overpowered No. 7 Rutgers, 5-2 to move into the next round. The Blue Demons lead the all-time series between the two teams 9-3.
With Syracuse's win against Pittsburgh, the Orange extended the longest win streak in program history to 12 consecutive games. Senior pitcher Jenna Caira showed her strength at the plate in SU's first round game, ending a hitting drought for the Orange in the bottom of the seventh inning. She started a series of hits, which was capped by L. Daniels' game-winning hit.
In the circle, the ace allowed just three hits and one run in seven innings of work, retiring two batters. Caira extended her program record season wins mark to 32 games.
DePaul's All-BIG EAST First Team selection, Kristen Verdun leads the Blue Demons in homeruns (11), RBI (42) and slugging percentage (.632). The rookie had a game-high two runs in the win against Rutgers. Pitcher Lindsey Dean recorded the win versus the Scarlet Knights to move to 10-5 on the season.
