Andrew Lewis, former Syracuse football defensive tackle, was one of two undrafted free agents who signed contracts with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday. Lewis, who earned three letters while with SU, joins Derrell Smith, Mike Holmes and Ryan Bartholomew as former Orange student-athletes to sign professional contracts this week.
Lewis had a career season for the Orange in 2010, doubling his tackle total from 14 in 2009 to 28 last year. The Centerville, Va. native started in all 12 games he played last season at defensive tackle, and had 4.5 tackles for a loss, including a sack for a loss of 10 yards. He also set career game bests for solo tackles (five), assisted tackles (three) and total tackles (five).
Lewis concluded his time at SU with 61 total tackles, including 33 solo efforts, nine tackles for a loss, two sacks and a forced fumble. Lewis also started in the last 24 games that he played in.
