SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Running back Antwon Bailey, cornerback Kevyn Scott and fullback Adam Harris will serve as team captains for the Orange in 2011, head coach Doug Marrone announced on Monday, Aug. 22. The senior trio was elected in a vote by their teammates. Bailey will represent the offense, Scott the defense, and Harris the squad's special teams.
“We are very proud of these three young men and how they represent Syracuse University,” Marrone said. “They all stand out in the classroom, in the community and on the football field. We look forward to them leading our team this year.”
A dual threat out of the backfield, Bailey enters his final year as Syracuse's all-time leader in receptions by a running back. He has 62 catches for 506 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Bailey's gained 1,093 yards on 214 carries during his career and has scored five rushing touchdowns. The Landover, Md. native was picked to Rivals.com's 2011 All-Spring Football Team in May after he recorded 118 yards on 20 carries in SU's annual Spring game. Bailey is a sport management major and was named to the 2008 Fall, 2009 Fall and 2010 Fall Athletic Director's Honor Rolls (min. 3.0 GPA).
Scott has played in 29 games in his SU career and has 61 total tackles and three interceptions. Last season, Scott appeared in six games and made seven tackles with one interception after missing the first half of the year due to injury. A member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, and an invitee to the 2009 University of Presidential Inaugural Conference (UPIC), Scott holds a degree in information management and technology. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in the same discipline.
A transfer from Cornell, Harris joined the Orange as a walk-on linebacker in 2009. He moved to fullback prior to the 2010 season and started 10 of the 12 games he played last year, totaling eight carries for 21 yards and four receptions for 36 yards. He also contributed six tackles on special teams. A marketing management major, Harris was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team last season. This year, Harris is a nominee for the All-State American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team for his service to the community.
Syracuse kicks off the 2011 season on Thursday, Sept. 1 against Wake Forest in the Carrier Dome (8 p.m., ESPN3). Individual and season tickets are available online and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (1-888-DOMETIX).
