
Newsted Named Compliance Coordinator

Rachel Newsted has been named compliance coordinator at Syracuse, according to Director of Compliance, Erlease Wagner.
She comes to Syracuse form Notre Dame where she earned her undergraduate degree in business administration in 2008 and her Juris doctorate in 2011. Newsted most recently served as a compliance intern at Notre Dame.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Newsted served as a student athletic manager while working on her degree at Notre Dame. After two years as a manager, she became a football manager in 2006. As a senior, she worked with the Fighting Irish men's basketball program as an equipment manager.
After earning her bachelor's degree, Newsted worked as a student research assistant to Notre Dame Associate Dean Ed Edmonds, compiling information regarding Major League Baseball salary arbitration and other projects. She was also a legal extern to Notre Dame Associate Athletics Director Jill Bodensteiner. In May 2010 she became an intern in the Notre Dame Law School Admissions Office.
She was a member of the Women's Legal Forum and the Sport, Communication, and Entertainment Law Forum from Fall 2008-to-May 2011.
Newsted replaces Steve Butler in the Syracuse compliance office. Butler was recently hired as associate athletics director for compliance at Niagara.
