Today: The all-time scoring leader in BIG EAST history: Lawrence Moten.
How is life after basketball?
I have no complaints. I am happily married for 16 year and have two beautiful girls. I am back home as a physical education teacher in Maryland. I played professionally for three years in the NBA and six or seven years overseas, so god has been good to me. I am just happy to be here. This is my first Boeheim Fantasy Camp, but it won't be my last.
Is this your first time back here to see the Melo Center?
No, this is not my first time back; I come back almost every summer. I have done Bernie Fine's camps and Coach Boeheim's camps. I stay affiliated with the guys like Scoop Jardine, Dion Waiters and even Arinze Onuaku when he was here, so I still stay in contact with a lot of guys. My ex-teammates are here like Lazarus [Sims], Adrian [Autry] and John [Wallace], so I stay in contact with them a lot, too.
You are the all-time leading scorer in the BIG EAST. Can you pin-point one specific memory at Syracuse that you remember the most?
There were so many good memories. Of course breaking the record was great, but I remember one specific game vividly. We beat Connecticut 108-95 in the Carrier Dome. It was a big game because they had Donyell Marshall, Ray Allen, Donnie Marshall and Kevin Ollie. We had me, John Wallace, Lazarus and Adrian. It was a very tough game. It was a great memory because we were both top five in the nation. But it is always good to come back; this is my second home. I have a lot of family and friends here, the people I consider family, so I will always be a part of the Orange.
What would your message be to a current or incoming player?
Every day is an audition no matter what. Every time you step onto this court you have to be ready. Every level gets harder. You might have been an all-star back home, but now you are playing against guys and with guys who are all-americans. It is just about working hard and taking another step up the ladder.
