Marrone: Daily Improvement is Critical
8/6/2011 7:48:04 PM | Football
Orange head coach Doug Marrone had a simple message for his squad after the second day of preseason practice – attention to detail is critical to achieve the team goals. With the season-opener 26 days away, Marrone stressed the importance of every practice rep and daily improvement.
"I just think we need to be better," Marrone said. "In order for us to accomplish those goals we want to attain, we're going to have to practice better, prepare better and we're going to have to be better in all three phases of the game."
The Orange begins the 2011 season on Thursday, September 1 against Wake Forest in the Carrier Dome (8:00 p.m., ESPN3). Individual and season tickets are available online or at the Dome Box Office (1-888-DOME-TIX).
Per NCAA practice rules the Orange took the field for the second day of practice in shorts and helmets. Tomorrow shoulder pads will be added to the practice uniform before full-contact practice starts early next week. Marrone said that he was pleased with the team during the Orange's first practice yesterday afternoon, but believes that his team must increase its level of competition every single practice in order to accomplish its goals this season.
"We set goals together as a team, we all signed on for them," Marrone said. "The goal is to compete for a BIG EAST championship. So when you set those kinds of goals, every day when you walk out there, those goals just aren't going to occur. You have to go out there and work towards those goals every day."
Fans are invited to the annual Fanfest on Friday, August 12 at 3:00 p.m. on the Katz-Schwartzwalder practice fields behind Manley Field House.
