Syracuse football third-year head coach Doug Marrone sat down with Andrew Joseph from ESPNAmerica.com to discuss the Orange and many aspects of college and professional football.
"We want to get back to being a consistent contender, and want to be in bowl games year in and year out," Marrone said. "When we first took over the program, we were ranked anywhere from 117th to 119th in the country out of 120 schools.
"It's definitely tough to overcome that, and we were able to do that because we have a lot of good leadership and a lot of good kids."
Joseph, a journalism student at the University of Kansas, asked Marrone on his thoughts concerning the difference between coaching at the college and professional levels.
"Sometimes in college, the players feel that they are just there on scholarship," Marrone said. "But they have to learn to strive for excellence in everything they do both on the field and in the classroom. I treated a lot of my pro players like I treat my college players. We talk about things like accountability for them."
SU travels to USC this weekend for the first time since 1924 on Saturday evening (8:00 p.m., FX Network), and will return to the Carrier Dome on September 24 to host Toledo (12:00 p.m., BIG EAST Network). Individual and season tickets are available for the game online, at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B) and by phone (888-DOMETIX). Season tickets start at $99, while the Time Warner Triple Play Pack, which offers one ticket to any three home games, starts at $72.
