Orange Hosts Providence in Home Opener

After playing seven consecutive games on the road to start the season, Syracuse plays its home opener against Providence on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. Syracuse enters the game with a 1-3-3 overall mark and a 0-1 record in BIG EAST play, while Providence is 3-2-4 overall, 1-0 in the conference.

ORANGE HOST FOOD DRIVE
Syracuse will hold a food drive on Sunday to benefi t the victims of flooding in the Binghamton, N.Y. area. The food drive is being coordinated by senior Megan Bellingham, a Binghamton native who has had family and friends affected by the flooding. All fans attending the Orange's contest against Providence are asked to bring non-perishable food items. The Orange is partnering with Missio Church on campus to deliver the supplies collected to those in need.
THE SERIES
Sunday's game marks the 16th meeting between Syracuse and Providence. The Orange leads the
all-time series, 10-4-1. In program history, Syracuse has faced only one opponent (Connecticut)
more than it has faced the Friars.
ORANGE IN HOME OPENERS
The Orange is 11-1-3 all time in its home openers. Last season Syracuse tied Lehigh, 2-2, snapping a three-game winning streak in home openers.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Laura DiClemente is Providence's leading scorer this season with 11 points, followed closely by Courtney Collins, who has eight points. DiClemente also leads the squad with four goals, while Collins and Mary Vercollone have a team-best two assists. Caitlin Walker has started every game in goal for the Friars. She has a 0.82 goals-against average and a .733 save percentage.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse had its two-game unbeaten streak snapped in a 1-0 setback against Connecticut in the BIG EAST opener for both teams on Thursday. After Orange recorded two corner kicks in the first seven minutes, the Huskies scored the game's only goal in the 11th minute. Syracuse had two quality chances to tie the game in the final 10 minutes, but Jenna Rickan's shot hit the post and Rosina Callisto's shot was stopped by UConn goalkeeper Jessica Dulski.
