SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Ashley Williams of SU volleyball and redshirt senior Ollie Haney of Orange football are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for September 19, 2011.
Williams, the team's starting libero, has anchored the Syracuse backline as she leads the team in digs with 241, and is fifth in the BIG EAST with 4.92 digs per set. Williams has led SU in digs every match but two this season.
A native of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Williams is pursuing a degree in supply chain management. She is a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team member, and has been on the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester.
Haney is currently working towards his Master's degree in teaching and curriculum, after earning his undergraduate degree in physical education this past May.
Hailing from Clark, N.J., Haney is a five-time member of the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll and a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.
Williams and the Orange volleyball team open BIG EAST action this Friday at home against USF. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. Haney and the football team is set for a noon kickoff against Toledo inside the Carrier Dome (BIG EAST Network).
