After leading the Orange to a 36-29 come-from-behind overtime victory against Wake Forest last Thursday, Syracuse senior quarterback Ryan Nassib has been named the Rivals.com BIG EAST Player of the Week. Nassib, who also earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, threw for three touchdown passes to help SU erase a 15-point fourth quarter deficit.
Nassib was 20-of-28 for 178 yards against the Demon Deacons, including completing 19 of his final 23 attempts, and going 8-of-8 in the fourth quarter and overtime. His 20 completions moved the West Chester, Pa. native ahead of Todd Norley (1982-85) for seventh on Syracuse's career completions list, while his three touchdowns passes tied Perry Peterson (2003-06) for fifth on SU's career record list for most touchdowns passes (25).
During his career with the Orange, Nassib is 258-of-454 (56.8%) with 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The second-year signal caller had a career season in 2010, setting the Syracuse single-season record with 202 completions. He ranks fourth on both SU's single-season passing yards record list (2,334 yards) and single-season touchdown passes record list (19). Nassib is a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team and six-time Syracuse Athletic Director's honor roll selection as a finance major.
The Orange hosts Rhode Island this Saturday, September 10 (4:30 p.m., TWCS/SNY, BIG EAST Network). Tickets are available for the game online, at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B) and by phone (888-DOMETIX).
