FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Syracuse is back on the road this weekend for a pair of games at the Fairfield University 20th Anniversary Invitational in Fairfield, Ct. The Orange takes on the host Stags on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Syracuse enters the game with a 1-2-1 record while Fairfield is 1-1-1.
THE SERIES
Syracuse and Fairfield will meet for the first time on the soccer pitch. The Stags opened the season with a 1-0 loss to Boston College before defeating Hofstra, 1-0. In their last game, Fairfield tied Massachusetts, 0-0.
SCOUTING THE STAGS
Lauren Reilly scored the Stags' only goal this season, which was the game-winner against Hofstra. Nikki Stanton and Shannon Fay assisted on the goal. Kelly Boudreau has played every minute in goal for Fairfield. She has a 0.31 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
The Orange had its two-game unbeaten streak snapped in a 2-1 setback against Rhode Island. After the Rams took a 2-0 lead, sophomore Cecilia Borgstrom recorded her first career goal to cut the lead in half. The Orange continued to apply offensive pressure, but could not score the equalizer. Sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Anghel made four saves for Syracuse.
ANGHEL LEADS THE BIG EAST
Sophomore Brittany Anghel is proving she's one of the top goalkeepers in the BIG EAST this season. She ranks first in the BIG EAST with a 0.71 goals-against average. In addition, Anghel is fourth in save percentage (.824) and tied for third in shutouts (2).
