With Super Bowl XLVI less than three weeks away, three Syracuse football alumni will compete for a spot in the NFL title game at the AFC and NFC Championships this weekend. Arthur Jones and Jameel McClain of the Baltimore Ravens and Tom Coughlin of the New York Giants will be in action on Sunday.
Baltimore closed the regular season with back-to-back wins to earn the No. 2 seed in the AFC. The Ravens defeated Houston, 20-13 last weekend, and will travel to New England to battle the top-seeded Patriots at 3:00 p.m. Sunday. McClain, who has started every game for the team this season, made two tackles for Baltimore against the Texans, and was the second-leading tackler during the regular season with 81 (47 solo). Jones has appeared in 15 games for the Ravens this season, making 17 tackles.
Coughlin is in his eighth season at the helm of the Giants, and is currently riding a four-game winning streak. They defeated the Atlanta Falcons in the Wild Card Playoffs, 24-2 before knocking off the No. 1 Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, 37-20 last weekend. The Giants will now head to San Francisco to take on the 49ers on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Coughlin is 76-54 during his time in New York, including a 10-7 mark in postseason play.
