Eight Named to Phil Steele's Midseason All-BIG EAST Teams

Eight Syracuse football student-athletes have been named to Phil Steele's Midseason All-BIG EAST teams. Â Wide receiver Marcus Sales and defensive end Brandon Sharpe were each named to the First Team. Garnering Second Team honors was senior offensive guard Zack Chibane and senior safety Shamarko Thomas. Named to the Third Team was wide receiver Alec Lemon, tight end Beckett Wales, center Macky MacPherson and linebacker Dyshawn Davis.

Sales recently caught his 100th pass against Pittsburgh and currently sits in tenth on SU's all-time receptions list (101). Sales leads the BIG EAST in 100-yard receiving performances (3). So far this season , the senior has scored five touchdowns and earned his way on to the 2012 Biletnikoff Award Watch List after recording his fourth straight game with at least 100 receiving yards against Stony Brook.

Sharpe has been honored with multiple awards for his career-best performance against Pittsburgh. The senior notched a career-high seven tackles, including six for a loss of 45 yards and four sacks for a loss of 42 yards against the Panther. The 4.0 sacks ties for second on the SU single-game record list while the 6.0 TFLs is second. He was honored as the FWAA/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week, the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the College Football Performance Awards National Defensive Performer of the Week and Defensive Lineman of the Week and the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance.

Chibane has started every game so far this season and tallied back-to-back season as a sophomore and junior blocking for 1,000-yard rushers. Thomas, a veteran in the Orange secondary, recorded nine tackles for the second consecutive game against Pittsburgh. He leads SU in tackles with 33, which includes 23 solo, three tackles for a loss of eight yards and one sack for a loss of six yards.

Lemon has recorded 20 consecutive games with a catch, which ranks eight on SUs all-time list. He also is SU's all-time leader in receptions with 145 catches. So far this season he has had 21 receptions for 212 yards. Wales has recorded 13 catches for 112 yards in four games this season. MacPherson is back in his starting role at center and has been named to the 2012 Rimington Trophy Fall Watch List. Davis most recently returned a fumble for a 52-yard touchdown against Pittsburgh. Davi has 29 tackles so far this season which includes 18 solo and 4.5 tackles for a loss of nine yards. Â
