BRONX, N.Y. - For the third time in four years, the Syracuse men's cross country team captured the BIG EAST Championship title. In a competitive women's field, the SU women took a sixth place finish. Leading the way for the Orange was freshman Martin Hehir who was the individual BIG EAST Champion, running to a first place finish with a time of 24:37.20. For the women, senior Sarah Pagano ran to a ninth place finish with a time of 21:10.42.

The SU men finished with 37 points, 30 points in front of second place Georgetown. The men had a program-high six harriers named All-BIG EAST. Hehir was joined by Joseph Whelan, Ryan Urie, Reed Kamyszek, Griff Graves and Robert Molke as SU's All-BIG EAST selections. Pagano was named All-BIG EAST for the third straight-year. It was the second time that a woman was named All-BIG EAST three years in a row. Nana-Sang Bender was named All-BIG EAST in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

In the men's 8k, the Orange finished four in the top 10. Behind first-place Hehir was Whelan with a time of 24:40 in fourth place. In ninth place was Urie (24:52) with Kaysezek right behind him in tenth place with a time of 24:53.

In 13th place was Graves, who ran a time of 24:58. Molke's time of 24:59 was good for 15th place. Max Straneva took 16th place, after finishing the race in 25:03. Andrew Palmer finished in 40th place with a time of 25:40 with Dan Lennon close behind him in 41st place with a time of 25:43.

Following Pagano in the women's 6k race, was Brianna Nerud in 23rd place who ran a time of 21:49. Alexandra Clinton finished in 26th place with a time of 21:57. The Orange finished in 29th through 32nd place with Jessie Petersen (22:01.11), Erin Cawley (22:02.80) Meredith Speakman (22:04) and Katie Fleischer (22:05). Â Angelica Peck took 35th place with a time of 22:06 and Kimberly Spano finished in 43rd (22:36).

The men's cross country team won the BIG EAST in both 2009 and 2010 as well.
