After its 37-36 win at South Florida, the Orange moved to 3-1 in the BIG EAST. Not only did the thrilling comeback victory move SU to 4-4 overall in the season, it moved it one win closer to its goal of playing in a bowl game.
"That win was really big for us," said senior wide receiver Marcus Sales. "Right now, we are 3-1 in the BIG EAST and our goal is to get to a bowl game. We know what we have to do. We are close to our bowl game so we shouldn't really have any trouble getting ready for it. We need two wins to get to a bowl game."
The game at USF was full of Orange come backs. SU came out of the locker room after halftime and scored three-straight touchdowns to erase a 20-point deficit and take the lead. Sales' five-yard touchdown reception put the Orange up 24-23. The Orange then fought back from being down nine points and took the lead again, thanks to another touchdown reception from Sales.
"It was a great comeback," Sales said. "Going into halftime we were down 20 points. We can't really look at the score in a situation like that. We just had to go out there and make things happen. We knew we left some plays out there on the field. We saw what we could do against those guys. We did that in the second half."
Sales notched two touchdowns at USF and led the receiving corps with nine receptions for 125 yards. He was honored on the BIG EAST Honor Roll this week for his efforts.
"We scored three touchdowns in six or seven minutes," Sales said. "The momentum definitely flipped for our side. We just have to come out in the first half and do that next week. It's definitely hard to come back twice when you play a team like South Florida with B.J. Daniels. You never know what he can do. They have an explosive offense. It's hard thinking about being down nine with only eight minutes left. We had to keep fighting."
The Orange is back in action at Cincinnati on Saturday, Nov. 3rd at noon (BIG EAST Network). SU returns to the Carrier Dome for a Homecoming contest against Louisville on November 10.Tickets are available online, in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B), or by calling 1-888-DOMETIX
