Former Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones has been making quite a statement in his first month of his rookie season in the NFL. Jones has been named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for September. Jones was chosen in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

Jones recorded a team-high three sacks in the month of September, which was also the most among NFL rookies. Jones recorded a sack in three of the four games played in September. He completed the month of September with 19 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles. In his NFL debut, Jones forced a fumble when he sacked Titans quarterback Jake Locker and Patriots rookie linebacker Dont'a Hightower recovered the ball for a six-yard fumble return-touchdown in the Patriots' 34-13 win at Tennessee. Jones has also started in all four games so far this season.

Jones' three sacks are the most by a Patriots rookie through the first four games since 1993 when Chris Slade had five. Jones is only the second Patriot to be named an NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month after Jerod Mayo was honored in October of 2008.

The 2011 All-BIG EAST First Team finished his career at Syracuse with 147 tackles, including 101 solo, 10 sacks for a loss of 28 yards and 27 tackles for a loss of 99 yards.
