UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Four goals by four different scorers led No. 5 Syracuse field hockey (18-2) to a 4-2 victory over No. 16 Massachusetts (14-9) in the NCAA Tournament first round on Saturday at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex. The Orange advances to face the host Nittany Lions on Sunday at 2 p.m. for the right to go to the Final Four.

Syracuse advances to the NCAA quarterfinals for the fifth year in a row under head coach Ange Bradley and the seventh time in program history.

In a rematch of its lone regular season loss, 2-1 on Oct. 11, the Orange seized control of the game early, scoring three first-half goals and outshooting the Minutewomen, 20-1, in the opening period.

Lauren Brooks, Kelsey Millman and Jordan Page scored the first-half goals and Stephanie Hussey scored early in the second half to give Syracuse a 4-0 lead before UMass got on the board with two late tallies by Thando Zono.

Brooks started the scoring in the ninth minute with her 11^th of the season. Millman scored her team-leading 13^th of the year in the 17^th minute, off an assist by Leonie Geyer.

Millman's goal gives her 92 points in the senior captain's career, passing Kristin Aronowicz (1999-01) for seventh in program history.

Page closed out the scoring in the period in the 23^rd minute off a rebound for the sophomore's seventh of the season.

Hussey scored her fifth talley of the season in the 45^th minute, pouncing on a rebound and beating UMass goalie Sam Carlino (13 saves).

Zono put the Minutewomen on the board with 5:39 to go off an assist from Lauren Allymohamed. The senior added her 14^th of the season with 2:23 remaining on a penalty stroke, making it 4-2.

Leann Stiver made three saves in goal to pick up the 61^st win of the senior goalkeeper's career.

For the game, Syracuse held a 26-7 shot advantage and a 9-5 edge in penalty corners.

No. 3 Penn State defeated No. 17 Albany in its opening round game.
