With 4:32 left in the game against No.11/10 Louisville, linebacker Dyshawn Davis keyed in on quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's pass. Davis intercepted the ball, sealing the Orange's victory against the previously undefeated Cardinals. Watch Davis' Orange All-Access interview here as he recounts the win against Louisville and preview Missouri.
Â
"It was a great feeling," Davis said. "A couple plays before the interception, I had dropped one. I knew I could have had it. I knew I had to make up for it. I dropped back in my coverage and Coach Schafer called a good blitz up. I had Teddy Bridgewater rushing out of the pocket and I made a great break on the ball and got the interception. It was a great feeling."
Â
Not only did the Orange defeat at top-ranked team, SU did it at home on Senior Day.
Â
"Coming into the game, we all believed that we were going to win this game," Davis said. "It wasn't really a surprise for us. We wanted to give the seniors something to go out with. We knew how much it meant to the seniors to get this win. We knew how much it meant that all their families were there and seniors like Deon Goggins, it was the first time that his family came from California. It was a pretty emotional game for the seniors. We just wanted to go out there and play our game and to give great effort. We wanted to give the seniors something to remember."
Â
Another exciting moment of the game was when linebacker Lewellyn Coker caught his first touchdown pass. Coker has been pulling double duty on both offense and defense, playing some snaps at fullback. Davis and the rest of the defense were extremely excited for their fellow linebacker to get a touchdown.
Â
"We almost got a penalty because the whole defense wanted to run into the endzone like the game was over," Davis said. "We knew coming into the game that we had practiced that play. Coker is a pretty athletic linebacker. We were all happy for Coker. It was great to see him get that touchdown. It's was a great game against a ranked team. He wears a red jersey and the offense wears green in practice. It was great to see a red jersey get at touchdown."
Â
The Orange's confidence played a big part in SU's success against Louisville. Fighting back from a disappointing loss at Cincinnati, the Orange came out strong against the Cardinals.
Â
"As a team, we all believed in each other," Davis said. "We have all had confidence since day one. It's been a pretty up and down season. We know that we let a couple of games slip away from us. The team always believed in each other. We have always believed in Coach Marrone. They say that our team played one of the toughest nonconference schedule in the country and that helped us throughout the season."
Â
Next up for SU is a road trip to Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 17th (7 p.m. ET; ESPNU).
Â
"We just need to go out there and execute the game plan and play our game," Davis said. "We need to play with great effort. We need to play physical and tackle well on defense. The offense has been playing great the last couple of weeks. That has helped the defense out. We know what we need to do to win this game. "
