SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman goalkeeper Alex Bono was named to the College Soccer News All-Freshman First Team, while classmate Jordan Vale earned a spot on the third team Thursday, Nov. 29.
Â
Bono started 20 matches for the Orange this season, recording 10 shutouts and 79 saves. The rookie goalie was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week three times, an SU record. He also posted a career-high eight saves in SU's final two NCAA Tournament games against No. 19 VCU and No. 6 Georgetown.
Â
Vale started every match for the Orange this season and finished the 2012 campaign as the squad's leading scorer. His nine goals were the most for an SU freshman since Kirk Johnson netted nine in 2000, and Vale's 21 points are the most for a first-year Orange player since 2001 (Jarett Park, 24).
Â
Bono and Vale led the Orange to the NCAA third round, the farthest Syracuse has ever advanced in the NCAA Championship. SU captured the first NCAA Tournament victories in program history this season, and recorded its most wins (14) since the 1986 campaign.
