Legendary Syracuse football wide receiver Art Monk will be one of four distinguished Syracuse University alumni to be honored with the George Arents Award during Syracuse's' Orange Central celebration this week. The four honorees will be honored at a celebration dinner in the Goldstein Auditorium on Thursday, Nov. 8, during the University's 2012 Orange Central celebration. Monk joins three other Syracuse University alumni that are being honored. Denis Crowley, the co-founder and CEO of foursquare, Thom Filicia, an influential interior designer and owner of Thom Filicia Inc., and James Werner , the founder of Friends of Leadership and Public Service High School, the Syracuse University Mentor/Mentee Alliance and was a founding member of the Mt. Sinai Comprehensive Breast Resource Center, will all be honored with Monk.

Monk, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will be inducted into the NFF Football College Football Hall of Fame on Dec. 4th in New York City. A current member of the SU Board of Trustees, Monk led the Orange in receiving from 1977-79. He is tied for eighth on Syracuse's career receptions list (102) and ranks eighth on the career receiving yards list (1,644). The winner of the Lambert Trophy as the top college football player in the Eastern U.S. in both his freshman and senior season, he set the Syracuse single-game record with 14 catches against Navy in 1977. He was honored as an All-American in 1979.
Named for George Arents, a successful manufacturer who served on the SU Board of Trustees from 1930 until his death in 1960, the Arents Awards are the University's highest alumni honor. They are presented annually to alumni who have made outstanding contributions to their chosen fields. The award highlights the depth and breadth of alumni and their initiative in making a difference in their communities, across the nation and around the world.
