Orange, Owls Meet in Madison Square Garden

NEW YORK – No. 3/3 Syracuse travels to New York City to face Temple in the Gotham Classic on Saturday, Dec. 22. Tipoff in Madison Square Garden is set for 12 p.m. The Orange enters the game with a perfect 10-0 record, while the Owls are 8-2 on the year.

The game will be televised by ESPN2. Fans can also listen to the game on the Syracuse IMG Radio Network and its flagship TK99 (99.5 FM). The audio stream of the broadcast will be available on Orange All Access on SUathletics.com. Subscriptions to Orange All Access are available at daily, monthly and yearly rates.

ORANGE IN MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
New York's College Team returns to Madison Square Garden on Saturday. The Orange has an all-time record of 89-72 at MSG, including a 71-44 mark during head coach Jim Boeheim's tenure. Syracuse played five games at the Garden during the 2011-12 campaign. It marked the eighth straight season SU played at least three games at MSG.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Jim Boeheim became the third Division I men's basketball coach to record 900 career victories when Syracuse defeated Detroit, 72-68, in the Carrier Dome on Monday, Dec. 17. He joins Mike Krzyzewksi and Bobby Knight in the exclusive club.

Leading by eight, 20-12, senior James Southerland notched seven consecutive points to increase SU's advantage to 27-13 with 7:30 to play in the first half. Syracuse took a 40-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Orange led by as many as 22 before Detroit mounted a comeback, scoring 16 unanswered points to pull within three. Holding on to a 67-64 lead with 29 seconds remaining, sophomore Michael Carter-Williams hit a pair of free throws to increase the advantage to five. After a Jason Calliste jumper again cut the lead to three, Carter-Williams went back to the line where he converted both of his attempts to put SU up by five with 13 seconds remaining. Doug Anderson's dunk with two seconds on the clock brought the Titans within three, but Carter-Williams hit 1-of-2 tries from the free throw line with one second left to seal the Orange's 10th win of the season.

Southerland led Syracuse with 22 points, while Carter-Williams had 12 points and 10 assists for his sixth consecutive double-double.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Temple had its two-game winning streak snapped in a 72-62 setback to Canisius on Wednesday. The Owls are now 8-2 this season, with its loss coming to Duke.

Khalif Wyatt is Temple's leading scorer this season, averaging 14.5 points per game. Scootie Randall (13.7 ppg.) and Anthony Lee (10.4 ppg.) also are averaging double figures in scoring. Randall leads the squad on the boards, grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game, and Wyatt has dished out a team-high 39 assists.

Fran Dunphy is in his seventh year at the helm of the Temple program. He has guided the Owls to three Atlantic 10 titles and five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Previously he served as the head coach at Pennsylvania.

THE SERIES
Saturday's game will be the 30th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Temple. The Orange owns a 16-13 advantage in the series. The Owls defeated SU, 65-54, in the last contest between the two schools on March 28, 2002. The win snapped Syracuse's eight-game winning streak in the series.
