The Syracuse football team's preparation for the New Era Pinstripe Bowl has begun in New York City. New York's College team started off its morning by getting a glimpse of the city atop The Empire State Building. The team then held practice at Columbia University. Syracuse faces West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 29th at Yankee Stadium (ESPN; 3:15 p.m.). Tickets and travel packages for the game are available now at SUathletics.com/bowlcentral.
"We are New York's Team," said senior offensive guard Zack Chibane. "This is us. That's what we believe. A lot of guys are from the Northeast. We have a lot of guys from Florida but I think everyone is loving the environment around here. I grew up in this environment."
Even with a roster full of Northeast natives, it was the first time many of the Orange student-athletes had climbed the Empire State Building. For senior nose tackle Deon Goggins, a California native, it was especially exciting to see New York from such a unique view.
"I love it, especially the view," Goggins said. "We are high up. I like it. Everybody else may be scared of heights, but I love it. In downtown L.A. we have tall buildings, but nothing like this."
The focus switched to preparing for West Virginia as the Orange completed its first practice in New York City this morning.
"It's going to be a new game," said senior tight end David Stevens. "It's going to be high scoring. It's going to be high powered. They have a great team. Its not going to be the same game as the previous games."
