Following standout seasons with the Orange in 2011, four Syracuse University football players have been invited to participate in the 2012 NFL Combine. Chandler Jones, Nick Provo, Phillip Thomas and Andrew Tiller are four of more than 300 top prospects that will head to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis from Feb. 22-28 in a vital step to achieving their NFL dreams.
Jones (Endicott, N.Y.), who chose to forego his final season of eligibility and enter the NFL Draft on December 30, was a 2011 All-BIG EAST First Team selection last season. He finished his career at SU with 147 tackles, which ranks seventh all-time among Orange down linemen. Jones made 38 tackles (30 solo) in just seven games played last season, including 7.5 tackles for a loss, moving him to ninth all-time on the Syracuse career tackles for loss record list (27.0).
A two-time All-BIG EAST selection during his time at SU, Jones started the final 20 games of his career at defensive end for the Orange. He was also named to the ESPN.com All-BIG EAST Team and Phil Steele's Postseason All-BIG EAST Team following the 2011 campaign.
Provo rewrote the Syracuse record book in 2011 with 51 catches for 537 yards and a conference leading seven touchdowns to earn All-BIG EAST First Team honors. The West Palm Beach, Fla. native passed Chris Gedney for the most career catches by a tight end (92) and receptions in a season for a tight end. Provo owns the SU record for consecutive games with a catch by a tight end at 25, which is fifth all-time at Syracuse. He also earned selection to the CBSSports.com All-BIG EAST Team and Phil Steele's Postseason All-BIG EAST Team.
Thomas (Miami, Fla.) led the team in tackles (82) and interceptions (six) last season. He is 21th on the Syracuse record list for career tackles by a defensive back with 203, and was named to the CBSSports.com All-BIG EAST Team.
Tiller has starter 25-of-35 career games with the Orange, and earned All-BIG EAST First Team status in 2011. The Brentwood, N.Y. native blocked for 1,000-yard rushers in each of the past two seasons, including Antwon Bailey last season. Tiller was also named to the ESPN.com All-BIG EAST Team and Phil Steele's Postseason All-BIG EAST First Team following the 2011 campaign.
Jones, Provo, Thomas and Tiller will have the chance to join 17 former Orange currently signed to NFL rosters at the 2012 NFL Draft, which begins with first round selections on April 26.
