Syracuse and Temple Headline Inaugural Gotham Classic

PRINCETON, N.J. - Perennial basketball powers Syracuse and Temple headline the field of the inaugural Gotham Classic, which culminates with the two teams facing each other at New York's Madison Square Garden on Saturday, December 22. Tickets for the Gotham Classic go ON SALE on March 29 at 10:00 a.m.
TICKET INFORMATION: Tickets for Gotham Classic featuring Syracuse vs. Temple at Madison Square Garden will go on sale beginning at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow (March 29) and may be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 866-448-7849 or through Ticketmaster.com.
The format for the inaugural Gotham Classic sees both Syracuse and Temple playing three games on campus beginning December 15 before taking on each other at the World's Most Famous Arena on Saturday, December 22. The other three teams in the event will travel to both Syracuse and Temple before facing each other, with one game at home and the other on the road.
Match-ups for the 2012 Gotham Classic, television details, and the entire field will be announced at a later date.
The Orange and Owls have combined for 65 trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Syracuse - Made its eighth NCAA Elite 8 appearance in 2011-12...has been to the NCAA Tournament 35 times...under Hall of Fame head coach Jim Boeheim, Syracuse has gone to the postseason 35 times in 36 years...won a school record 34 games in 2011-12...won the Big East regular season championship...expected to return two starters from this year's team...Brandon Triche netted 9.4 ppg to go along with 95 assists...C.J. Fair added 8.5 ppg and led the team with 199 rebounds.
Temple - Earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the 30th time this year...compiled a 24-8 record and won the Atlantic 10 regular season championship...head coach Fran Dunphy ended his sixth year at Temple and took the Owls to the NCAAs for the fifth straight time...two starters are expected back from this year's squad, led by Khalif Wyatt, who tallied 17.1 ppg and handed out 103 assists...Rahlif Hollis-Jefferson put up averages of 9.3 points and 6.6 rebounds a game.
