Darkangelo Earns Conference Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After netting Syracuse's first hat trick since October 16, 2010 last weekend against No. 6/6 Mercyhurst, freshman center Shiann Darkangelo was named the CHA Rookie of the Week on Monday. Darkangelo, who was also named to the CHA All-Tournament Team last weekend, scored all three of her goals with the Orange on the power play. Sophomore goaltender Jenesica Drinkwater also earned conference accolades, being named to the CHA Honor Roll.
Darkangelo's three power play tallies on Friday marked the first time in program history that a player had netted three goals on the man advantage. Darkangelo also won 15-of-26 draws during the game, and was named to the CHA All-Tournament Team. She finished the season with 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) to lead all freshmen.
She is tied for 48th in the nation in power play goals (four), and is tied for 31st in the country in points per game among rookie scorers (0.51). Her 18 points are tied for 17th in the conference, 11 assists are tied for 16th, and her four power play goals are tied for ninth.
Drinkwater made a career high 38 saves against the Lakers last weekend, holding the nation's third highest scoring offense to four goals. She finished the 2011-12 season with a 4-9-1 record along with a 3.01 goals against average and .900 save percentage. She also made at least 30 saves five times during the season. Drinkwater is fourth in the conference in save percentage and goals against average.
