Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania, in partnership with Nestle USA and Syracuse University Football, today presented the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York with a donation of $2,300 in Tops Markets gift cards and 161 cases of Juicy Juice fun size juices.
As part of the “Juice in the 'Cuse” charitable campaign, for every touchdown scored at the Carrier Dome by the Syracuse University football team during the regular 2011 football season, Tops donated $100 in Tops Markets gift cards and Nestle USA donated seven cases of Juicy Juice fun size juices to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York.
“At Tops, we believe in improving the lives of children,” said Kathleen Allen, Tops manager of community relations. “We decided our 'Juice in the 'Cuse' campaign would best serve the Ronald McDonald House by supplying food and drink as they embark on opening their new larger facility to serve more families in central New York.”
Today's presentation to the Ronald McDonald House was made by representatives from Tops Markets, Nestle USA and Syracuse Football, including head coach Doug Marrone, at the Nottingham Road Tops Markets. The Nottingham Road Tops Markets features a Syracuse University Athletics theme, making it the only grocery store in the northeast with university-themed décor throughout the store. The store includes a Syracuse Athletics-themed Cuse Café, life sized wall photos of past and present Syracuse University athletes, orange shopping carts, and a basketball court with Syracuse logos and court markings in the frozen foods aisles.
"My involvement with the Ronald McDonald House started for me when I was a player here. It was my first sense of community service when I was 17-18 years old,” said Marrone, who is a Ronald McDonald House Charities of CNY ambassador. “We talk with our players about life skills, including giving back to the community. I can tell you, when we go to visit, how touching it is and how beneficial what we're doing is for the families and for the recovery of a lot of these young girls and boys and what they go through. I applaud everyone at Tops and Nestle in what they're trying to do."
"We are grateful to Tops, Nestle, the Syracuse Football program and Coach Marrone,” said Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York Executive Director Beth Trunfio. “As Coach Marrone said, it takes community partnerships to be able to support charities in this community, particularly the Ronald McDonald House. We say it takes many hearts to support our home, and that's in fact what you have today.
"Coach Marrone and the Syracuse Football program do something extraordinary for the Ronald McDonald House, but also for the community. They develop young people, these players, and I think that's how to measure the success of any program, business and organization is how those individuals support the community, so we are grateful to him and the Syracuse Football program."
In September of 2010, Tops Markets announced it partnership with Syracuse University Athletics as the major sponsor of Syracuse University football, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's lacrosse for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons.
