The Syracuse track and field team will make its second trip to Princeton, N.J. this weekend for the Larry Ellis Invitational. The Orange is one of more than 200 collegiate squads expected to compete in the meet that is anticipating more than 2,000 student-athletes at Weaver Stadium.
SU will get a look at several other BIG EAST squads throughout the weekend as student-athletes from Georgetown, Providence, Rutgers, UConn, Villanova and West Virginia with the conference championships only two weeks away.
Field events begin on Friday at 3:00 p.m. with the hammer throw in West Windsor Fields followed by track events at 5:00 p.m. in Weaver Stadium. Molly Malone and Beth Wright (800-meter run), Lauren Penney, Maura Linde (1500-meter run), Sarah Pagano and Angelica Peck (5000-meter run) will also compete in the first night of the meet, while the strong steeplechase team of Heather Stephens, Rebekah MacKay, Natalie Busby and Katie Hursey will also run on Friday.
On the men's side Martin Hehir and Tito Medrano will participate in the 1500-meter run while Jace Lowry headlines 10 Orange runners in the 5000-meter run. In the men's steeplechase, Pat Dupont and Joseph Whelan will both compete.
Some members of the Orange will be staying closer to home this weekend for the Cortland Classic, which starts on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
