Syracuse offensive tackle Andrew Tiller was chosen with the ninth pick in the sixth round (179th overall) selection by the New Orleans Saints in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Brentwood, N.Y. native is the second Syracuse player from New York chosed in the draft this year. Defensive end Chandler Jones was the 21st overall selection by the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
Tiller is the first Syracuse offensive lineman drafted since guard Ryan Durand was chosen by the Titans in the seventh round of the 2009 draft and the highest SU lineman drafted since Adam Terry was taken in the second round of the 2005 draft by the Baltimore Ravens.
A 2011 All-BIG EAST First Team honoree, Tiller paved the way for 1,000-yard rushers during all three of his seasons at Syracuse, including current Indianapolis Colts running back Delone Carter (2009 and 2010) and Antwon Bailey (2011). A three-time letterwinner, Tiller started in all 25 of Syracuse's games as a junior and senior and played in 35 during his Syracuse career.
The last time a Syracuse was selected by the New Orleans was 1972, when the Saints selected defensive back Tommy Myers in the third round. Myers played for New Orleans for 10 seasons and was a Pro Bowl selection in 1980.
