Rob Long's Race For Hope Page
Rob Long used to punt for the Syracuse football team. In December 2010, tumors were discovered in his brain, and he was diagnosed with cancer. But Rob managed to kick that too.
Now, in the wake of Rob's battle and his ultimate triumph, he has gained a new perspective, found deeper motivations, and set himself new challenges to face. In particular, two challenges carry special weight for Rob: returning to football in pursuit of a NFL career and to raise money and support for brain cancer research initiatives through the Race for Hope.
Rob will participate as a runner in the 5K Race for Hope on May 6 in Washington, D.C., and through the unified commitment to combat cancer and the generosity of donors, he has managed to raise more than $1,100 towards his goal of $2,000 for the cause.
“Race for Hope has helped a lot of people that need something to hope for, and I just want to do what I can to help out and bring more awareness to it,” said Long.
Rob was driven during his fight with cancer by his family and loved ones and by his desire to play football again.
“It was a very humbling thing to have gone through, and it has helped me to keep things in perspective and to face the challenges of daily life,” said Long. “Now, even just to be training again is a special thing.”
Rob hopes his training will not only bring him to accomplish his goal of playing in the NFL but will also, through his participation in the Race for Hope, bring the triumph over cancer to more people.
