
Duo Sweeps Final BIG EAST Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the third time this season, Syracuse juniors Michelle Tumolo and Becca Block have swept the BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards. Tumolo is the Offensive Player of the Week, while Block earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor. The pair helped No. 2/2 Syracuse to victories against No. 14/14 Loyola (Md.) and Villanova to secure the regular-season conference championship last week. Tumolo and Block also swept the awards on March 19 and April 17.
Tumolo led Syracuse offensively in its wins versus the Greyhounds and Wildcats. Against Loyola (Md.), the attacker recorded four goals and one assist as SU recorded a 13-12 triumph. Tumolo tied her career high with eight points on three goals and five assists against Villanova, as the Orange extended its winning streak to 14 with an 18-3 victory.
The player of the week honor is Block's fifth of the season, a conference record. The defender anchored a strong Syracuse defense which limited its opponents to 7.5 goals per contest last week. She registered three draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover against Villanova. Block collected four ground balls and four draw controls versus the Greyhounds.
The Orange (14-2, 8-0) is the No. 1 seed in this week's BIG EAST Tournament in the Carrier Dome. Syracuse will face Georgetown in the second semifinal match-up at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 3. No. 2 seed Loyola and third-seeded Notre Dame will duel in the first semifinal at 5:30 p.m. The victors will face in the conference championship game on Saturday, May 5.
