Syracuse University's 158th commencement will include 97 student-athletes among the more than 5,000 graduates on Sunday, May 13. The group, which earned degrees from 10 different schools and colleges, experienced success on the fields and courts as well as in the classroom.
Earlier this year, the group helped Syracuse to its highest ranking in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Learfield Sports Directors' Cup fall standings when the Orange was second with 158 points. The men's basketball and indoor track & field teams earned points in the winter, while the men's and women's lacrosse, softball, rowing and outdoor track & field squads are still competing this spring.
As sophomores, this group led the Orange to its best year in history with a school-record 368.5 points. Seven SU teams scored points for advancing to post-season competition, women's lacrosse in the Final Four, men's lacrosse in the NCAA Tournament for the 30th time in school history, men's basketball in the Sweet 16, the men and women's cross country teams in the NCAA Championship, and field hockey and softball in the NCAA Tournament. The Orange ranked 57th out of 283 universities in the final standings.
In addition, members of the graduating class have earned numerous academic honors, including BIG EAST All-Academic Team and Athletic Director's Honor Roll accolades.
