SU Opens Competition At ECAC/IC4A Meets

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Syracuse women's track and field team used five top-ten finishes on Friday, and currently sits in fifth place at the 2012 ECAC Championship. The SU men were led by Patrick Geoghegan's three-second victory in the 10000-meter run, and are in fourth place after one day of competition at the IC4A Championship in Princeton, N.J.
Geoghegan battled MIT's Daniel Harper throughout the race before clocking in with a time of 30:04.71. The Orange also had Joseph Whelan competing in the 3000-meter steeplechase, where he finished 10th overall at 9:09.59.
Brenna Symoniak and Jessie Petersen both recorded top-ten finishes in the 5,000-meter run, with Symoniak in sixth (16:37.07) and Petersen in eighth (16:44.30). In the 10,000-meter run, Alexandra Clinton led the charge for SU with a fifth place finish (35:50.38) while Kimberly Spano trailed close behind in seventh (36:01.64).
Erin Cawley narrowly missed a top-five finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase by 0.48 seconds, ultimately placing sixth with a time of 10:37.66 in a race that saw Cornell claim the top-two spots.
Syracuse will continue the three-day championships throughout the weekend in Princeton.
