SU Wins Two Events At BIG EAST Day One

TAMPA, Fla. – Pat Dupont's time of 8:49.40 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Sarah Pagano's victory in the 10,000-meter run headlined Syracuse day one performance at the 2012 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in Tampa, Fla. Pagano's time of 34:37.94 and Dupont's showing both set stadium records at the USF Track Stadium as both the Orange men and women sit in first place through three events.
Pagano claimed the 10,000-meter win by seven seconds, topping Notre Dame's Gabriella Gonzales. Reigning 'Cuse Awards Female Athlete of the Year Lauren Penney also ran in the event, narrowly missing a spot on the podium with a fourth place finish at 35:24.85.
In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Syracuse claimed four top-ten finishes, led by Katie Hursey's third place finish (10:14.05). Natalie Busby (10:16.68) and Heather Stephens (10:17.99) took spots four and five, respectively, while Rebekah MacKay clocked in with a time of 10:25.12, good for a seventh place finish.
In a neck-and-neck battle down the stretch, Robert Molke finished just 0.60 seconds behind champion Mark Dennin of Notre Dame to take the silver, while teammate Tito Medrano finished just behind in fifth place with a time of 33:12.16.
Syracuse will continue competition at the conference championships throughout the day on Saturday.
