Syracuse had three players selected in the 2012 NBA Draft conducted June 28, including two first-round picks, in one of the program's most productive showings at the event.
Guard Dion Waiters was taken by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the fourth overall pick, center Fab Melo was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 22nd pick in the first round, and Kris Joseph was the 21st player tabbed in the second round by the Celtics (51st overall).
It marked the second time in Syracuse program history that two players were picked in the first round. Billy Owens (third overall, Sacramento Kings) and LeRon Ellis (22nd overall, Los Angeles Clippers) were each first-round selections in 1991.
Syracuse has had three players drafted on three other occassions:
1981: Danny Schayes (Utah Jazz), Eddie Moss (Dallas Mavericks) and Marty Headd (New York Knicks)
1983: Leo Rautins (Philadelphia 76ers), Erich Santifer (Detroit Pistons), Tony Bruin (Philadelphia 76ers)
1986: Dwayne Washington (New Jersey Netx), Rafael Addison (Phoenix Suns), Wendell Alexis (Golden State Warriors)
Syracuse has now had players selected in the first round in four of the last five years. Donte Greene (Memphis Grizzlies) started the run in 2008. He was followed by Jonny Flynn (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Wesley Johnson (Minnesota Timberwolves) in 2009 and 2010, respectively.
Waiters and Melo represented the 18th and 19th Syracuse performers who have been picked in the first round.
