Syracuse football recruit Jason Emerich is slated to compete in the Big 33 Football Classic on June 16 at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pa. The Big 33 game, currently in its 55th year, features the top high school football players from Pennsylvania and Ohio against each other.
Emerich joined the Orange after a successful career at Blue Mountain High School in Schuylkill Haven, Pa. A 6'4'', 275-pound offensive lineman, Emerich helped Blue Mountain rushers gain 2,586 yards in 11 games last season. As a team captain, Emerich also played on the defensive side of the ball, totaling 27 tackles, including two sacks, and two fumble recoveries as a lineman.
He was named to the 2011 Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AAA First Team, and also played in the 2011 SCHCA North-South All-Star Game and the 2011 Chesapeake Bowl. Emerich is Scout.com's 99th-best offensive guard in the nation, and is ranked 49th at his position by ESPN.
Four other future members of the Orange will also take the field in spring action. At the third annual New York State High School Football Classic at the Carrier Dome on Sunday, defensive back Wayne Morgan, offensive lineman Omari Palmer and Devante McFarlane will suit up for the Downstate Team, while offensive lineman Ben Barrett will play for the Upstate Team.
Syracuse will begin the 2012 season on September 1 against Northwestern in the Carrier Dome. Tickets are available online, at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B) or by calling 1-888-DOME-TIX.
