SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The preseason recognition continues to roll in for senior offensive tackle Justin Pugh. Pugh has been named to the 43rd Rotary Lombardi Award Official Watch List which honors the nation's top college lineman or linebacker each year. He is one of nine BIG EAST players listed. Pugh was also named to the 2012 Outland Trophy Watch List which recognizes the best interior lineman in college football.
Pugh was recognized as an All- BIG EAST First team selection in 2011 and garnered second team accolades in 2010. The Holland, Pa. native has started every contest for the Orange the past two seasons and has had consecutive seasons blocking for a 1,000-yard rusher. He was also one of 11 Syracuse football players named Phil Steele's 2012 Preseason All-BIG EAST Teams, receiving first team honors.
The criteria for being placed on the Rotary Lombardi Award Official Watch are that the candidates earn All-American honors last season, are named to their respective all-conference first team, are projected to be an All-American or first team all-conference player for the coming season, or are nominated by the nominations committee. The award is named after Vince Lombardi, who played lineman at Fordham University in the mid-1930's and went on to be a successful head coach of the Green Bay Packers. All net proceeds from the Award Dinners and associated activities are contributed to the American Cancer Society.
Pugh and the rest of the Orange report for preseason camp on August 4th and kick off the 2012 season with their home opener in the Carrier Dome against Northwestern on Sept. 1st. Tickets are available online, at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B) or by calling 1-888-DOMETIX.
Tickets, travel packages and tailgating tickets are also available here for the N.Y. College Classic when Syracuse takes on USC at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 8th.
