Complete All-Star Game Recap
PALM BEACH COUNTY Fla. – Five former Syracuse University lacrosse alums made significant contributions in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star Game Saturday, June 30 at FAU Stadium. None was bigger than Steven Brooks' unassisted game-winning goal with 56 seconds left that propelled the “Old School” to an 18-17 victory over the “Young Guns.”
Brooks, a midfielder for the Chesapeake Bayhawks, finished the contest with three points (two goals, one assist). “Old School” teammate, and 1998 SU graduate, Casey Powell also recorded two goals and one assist to tie for team-high scoring honors.
The “Young Guns” featured past SU stars Stephen Keogh, now of the Hamilton Nationals, Rochester Rattlers' defensive midfielder Joel White, and Charlotte Hounds' midfielder Jovan Miller. Keogh notched a second-quarter goal, White tied for the team lead with seven ground balls, and Miller passed out two assists.
Brooks, Miller and White also put on a show at halftime during the Bud Light Skills Competition. Brooks registered 105 miles per hour to place second behind Kyle Hartzell (111 mph) in the fastest shot competition. Miller dazzled fans in the freestyle event with an array of moves, but was beaten out by SU women's volunteer assistant coach, and current Hamilton Nationals goalie, Brett Queener.
In the obstacle course, White clocked a time of 14.62 seconds to win going away.
The MLL regular season continues this week with a full slate of games, including Brooks' Bayhawks facing off against Miller's Hounds on Saturday, July 7.
