BALTIMORE – Former Syracuse University midfielders Matt Abbott and Steven Brooks have been named to the U.S. roster for the "Duel in Denver," an exhibition game that pits Team USA against Canada on Sept. 8, 2012 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.
Â
The 25-man roster for the exhibition was released Friday, July 20 by U.S. Lacrosse and includes 10 members of the U.S. team that defeated Canada, 12-10, in Manchester, England to win the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship.
Â
Brooks and Abbott were teammates at Syracuse for three seasons. The pair helped the Orange win the 2008 NCAA title. Abbott also won a national championship with the Orange in 2009. Currently, the duo plays together professionally with the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (MLL).
Â
The "Duel in Denver" serves as a prelude to the 2014 FIL World Championship, which will be hosted by U.S. Lacrosse in Denver from July 10-19, 2014. It also serves as a starting point for the selection of the training team that will comprise the 2014 U.S. Men's Senior National Team, and marks the first game for the U.S. under new head coach Richie Meade.
