Calls of "hu-ah" echoed around the practice field this morning as the Syracuse football team returned back home for its first practice following its week at Fort Drum. The battle cry wasn't the only thing that the Orange took away from the week of camp at the Army post.
"We transitioned back here to Syracuse from Fort Drum," head coach Doug Marrone said. "The Fort Drum experience was a great experience, not only for our coaches, but for our players. We felt we had gotten a lot out of it. We hope that the things that we got out of it carry over to this season to make us a better football team."
The Orange are zeroing in on the season following its week of participating in military activities and preseason camp at Fort Drum. The goal of practice this morning was to have an efficient, fast moving session.
"Coming back to today, like I told our players, our goal was that when we went out on the field was to create a high sense of urgency and a high tempo," Marrone said. "Just to get us back and to set the standard of working or how we want to work when we come back here to Syracuse. I thought the players today did a nice job of that."
The Orange kick off the 2012 season on Sept. 1st at the Carrier Dome against Northwestern (12 p.m., ESPN2). Season and individual game tickets are available online, in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B), or by calling 1-888-DOMETIX. Tickets and travel packages for New York's College Classic against USC at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 8th are available at www.nycollegeclassic.com.
