Abbott, Brooks are MLL Champs

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Former Syracuse lacrosse midfielders Steven Brooks and Matt Abbott, now members of the Chesapeake Bayhawks, became Major League Lacrosse (MLL) champions last week in Boston.
The Bayhawks routed the Denver Outlaws, 16-6, at Harvard Stadium last Sunday to become the first team to capture four MLL titles. Brooks was the driving force early, scoring two goals and assisting on two others in the first quarter as Chesapeake took a 5-2 lead and never looked back. The Bayhawks limited the Outlaws to a season-low six goals, and Denver managed just one goal in the second half.
Abbott led the Bayhawks with six ground balls in the game.
Brooks finished the 2012 season with 23 goals, 10 assists and 36 points while Abbott recorded 11 points (seven goals, four assists) and had 45 groundballs.
Brooks and Abbott were teammates at Syracuse for three seasons. The pair helped the Orange win the 2008 NCAA title. Abbott also won a national championship with the Orange in 2009. Both players have also been selected to represent Team USA when they take on Canada in the upcoming "Duel in Denver" exhibition, which takes place Sept. 8, 2012 in Commerce City, Colo.
